Piano Tuning

Piano Tunings

You might be asking yourself, do I need to have my piano tuned? How often?

It is very important to have your piano tuned regularly.  A tuning is an opportunity for your piano technician to not only do the necessary tuning, but to also lubricate internal parts that tend to dry out and cause problems for those playing the instrument.  Minor adjustments of the keys, hammers, etc. are included when you have us come out to do a tuning!

Your piano can go out of tune whether you play it or not.  Weather, especially in Texas, is constantly changing, and the humidity goes up and down.  Because your piano is mostly made of wood, the piano actually changes shape minutely, and the strings stretch and loosen as that happens.

As your piano ages, the tuning pins that hold the strings tend to loosen.  This means that the tuning will not last as long.  In many cases, a little less time between tunings will help keep your instrument sounding great.

If you play your piano every week, it is a good idea to have it tuned every six months.  Otherwise, a tuning once a year will keep your piano in great shape!
